* My Book *

Since it has so often been referred to as my 'baby' I can now announce the birth of my bouncing book! It contains 246 pages and weighs in at a hefty 515 grams, which is pretty heavy compared the standard weight of other books on the same subject! Although it has been a long, difficult pregnancy and leading up to the birth tedious and excruciating, I'm extremely happy and relieved it has finally come into reality!

So here it is, the end product I put my heart and soul into, which I certainly never imagined would take years in the making. I can assure you though, it is a 'must have' reference book that contains tons of helpful information, as well as having 94 unique and instructive photos.

Considering that this is the first and only Australian publication dedicated to pet rabbits, you have to admit it has been long overdue!

Check out the online Order Form page (in the drop down menu) to find out how to receive your original 'hot off the press' copy.

The following are genuine and freely offered opinions – without any arm-twisting, blackmail, coercion or words sneakily added by the author!

This is the most detailed and definitive book on rabbit care and husbandry that I have ever seen! I am really looking forward to being able to sit, relax and enjoy a peaceful read. Kevin B Etherton, Vice President, OzWest Rabbit Club

Congratulations! I think it is THE most fantastic and informative rabbit book that I have ever read. When I started in bunnies four years ago I searched everywhere for books and bought every one that I could put my hands on and although some of the overseas books were helpful none compare to your work. You have covered absolutely everything and I will certainly recommend it to everyone I come across who is interested in bunnies. Good work and I am glad that you took the plunge and gave us a good reference book and a great read for our much-loved hobby. Kerry Mietzel, Mini Lop Breeder

I found 'The Wonderful World of Pet Rabbits' a most informative book. Being a veterinary surgeon I am experienced in dealing with sick and injured rabbits, but I must confess that I only possess basic knowledge as regards to the general husbandry of rabbits and their behaviour. Christine provides the type of information that can only be acquired through years of breeding, showing and keeping rabbits as pets. I believe this book would be very useful to new rabbit owners, people contemplating keeping rabbits as pets, or even veterinary surgeons such as myself hoping to learn more about the husbandry of rabbits.

This book is an excellent comprehensive guide ideal for both the novice bunny owner and the more experienced rabbit breeder. Covering every aspect of rabbit care from feeding, housing and breeding it also includes a thorough and informative health section. Beautifully illustrated throughout and an invaluable resource for rabbit owners.

I am very impressed. It is a very comprehensive work, which has plenty for both the breeder and the pet owner. Its particular strengths are that it is very practical and is written in an easy, non-technical style, and that it has copious illustrations, which amplify and help explain things far better than words. This is particularly true of weeds and other plants, carry boxes, cages and baby rabbits. The case studies and personal anecdotes are also helpful as are the references to reliable websites and other sources.

Most of all I appreciated the approach to topics which some people (particularly newbies who are at that stage where they think they know everything because they read it on a website somewhere) get quite agitated and dogmatic about such as whether to feed cabbage or lettuce, the question of sugar in the diet, how much to feed and so on. The even-handed treatment of such topics, which presents both sides of the argument and then the follow-up with commonsense corrective, is a breath of fresh air into what are often ultimately futile debates.

The book is full of very sensible information in all chapters, backed up by years of experience and, where appropriate, research. Anyone could read it with profit and come away with some timely reminders (such as presenting the back of the hand not fingers to a bunny) as well as things they did not know before. It is good to have all this accumulated knowledge set down in one place. Well done.

Nikki White Vice President of the Canberra Rabbit Club Inc

I found The Wonderful World of Pet Rabbits very informative and I enjoyed the very relaxed and chatty style. I expect that some people may criticize this style as not being 'serious' enough, but I have read plenty of serious books and whilst full of knowledge, they tend to be seriously boring and seriously hard work to read. In contrast this book is very user friendly and very enjoyable to read.

It certainly covers the topic of practical husbandry comprehensively and the depth of knowledge and experience that it contains makes it a great resource for experienced and inexperienced rabbit keepers. It is well set out, easy to access the knowledge within and has lots of great illustrations. The section on toxic plants is a great example and the photos are a fantastic resource and vital to help identify potentially hazardous plants. I did not note any obvious factual or typographic errors, a credit to the editorial staff.

My first impression was astonishment as to the amount of work that the author has obviously put into producing this excellent book. I found so much valuable information I am sure that pet owners would have all the answers to questions at their fingertip.

Pauline Taylor Rabbit breeder/exhibitor since 1981.

I was thoroughly pleased when I read this book as the knowledge and thought that has gone into it shows. I feel the information Christine is passing on to all is valuable and not to be missed! Christine has been very thorough with backing up information with case studies and photos. The best thing about this book is it has covered everything! I certainly recommend it to all and I thank you Christine for writing it!

Excerpts from a review published in Fur and Feather magazine (Dec 2006 issue)
"Christine Carter's book is as good as a chum dropping in; it is chatty and friendly, passes on snippets of rabbit gossip and, best of all is very, very informative. It has found a gap in the rabbit owner's library and filled it to perfection, crossing the boundaries between technical and sentimental very successfully."
"There are tips and useful points littering the pages, covering many points that the average pet owner would never know"
"
Every pet rabbit owner should have a copy of this book, it's as reassuring as having an expert friend living in your home."

Barbara Kerks ( Fur & Feather columnist )

A selection of positive feedback from others . . .

As a newcomer to the joys of pet rabbits, I highly recommend Christine’s book.
‘The Wonderful World of Pet Rabbits’ provided answers to all of my bunny care questions, while being an entertaining and enjoyable read. When we were given our rabbit, Eddy, I knew nothing about looking after rabbits. I was so grateful to find a book that covered everything. Some highlights for me have been:
the section on house training, the excellent information on what to feed your bunny, the section on bunny massage (which Eddy loves) and the helpful problem solving tips right throughout. I found the whole book to be really impressive.

I finally got to own your lovely book, which I read as soon as I got in the door and didn't put it down until I came to the back cover. I have to say it was fantastic and as a book reader would say it is the best book I have purchased in a long time.
Thank you so much Christine. Nicki Whiteside, Victoria

Goodness, I just love your book so much. I can't stop reading it over and over! Thank you for such an excellent book, full of vital information to both breeders and pet owners. I am going to recommend this to everyone I know. Nicole Goon, Victoria

The book arrived safely this morning and it's amazing! I hadn't been able to put it down, that is, until my daughter got home from school and got her hands on it. Your book is like a sigh of relief. J
There's yet a question that I've not been able to find the answer to plus more I'd never even dreamt of.

I have purchased and borrowed several books on rabbits over the last couple of months but nothing even compares to your book. It truly is uniquely different and informative. No rabbit owner or fancier should be without it and I'm sure it will become an invaluable resource to the rabbit community. Tracy Bollard, NSW

It is probably the best book of its kind I have ever read, it told me things it has taken ten years to find out by blood, sweat, tears and vet bills. Obviously the reader it would be ideal for, is someone with rather less experience than myself and I will wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone I know in that position. It amused our vet when I told him about using emu oil (of course we have no
emus in England). Sue Bagshaw, UK

A brilliant website and a brilliant much needed book for the Rabbit Community.

Just a quick one to let you know that I received your book the other day. Oh what an absolute wonder it is . . . . congratulations Christine! Australian rabbit folk needed a bible and you have provided it . . . . it is a true credit to you and I wish you all the best with it, and thank you once again for sharing your vast knowledge and experiences. Helen Trewarn, Victoria

Your book was a fascinating read, I just couldn't put it down and read it in one sitting.
It is a very enjoyable, informative book and I will recommend it. My rabbits will certainly enjoy a more diverse selection of foods in the coming warmer months. More of my plants will be recycled by my rabbits – not the compost heap in future. My rabbits have already begun with some new plants to devour and loved them. I just wish I had known about some of the plants before. Since reading your book I have now gone out and bought them a bamboo and I shall certainly be raiding my local woods for some more food for them.
Stephanie Mitchell, UK

The first thing that catches my eye are the rabbit pics on the front cover it is almost like you can touch their fur like they are kind of real!  The white rabbit in particular looks real!  This is a good marketing point in that your front cover design will make people want to pick it up off the shelves. Craig Moore, Sales and marketing The Pet Directory

I discovered this most beautiful book on rabbits that Christine has presented. It is a very well put together book with all its lovely pictures. The cover is just wonderful and I sat there for a few moments running my hand over the cover, which has such a good feeling. Christine you are a wizz in being able to choose not only wonderful material to fill this book with its many pages but the paper that it is produced on. Congratulations. Pauline Taylor, New Zealand

Firstly I would like to say I found your book fantastic. I couldn't put it down. I was meant to be studying but instead kept finding I was picking up your book. Now my mum who has never enjoyed reading or had an interest in animals has also been picking it up trying to learn a few things about my bunnies.
I haven’t had any babies yet but when I do I am more than happy to recommend your book to people.
I have already been telling one lady I'm friends with, how good it is so I’m going to show her next week and I have told her how to order one. Melanie Saunders, Tasmania

Your book is brilliant. Being a bunny novice I had many queries and worries. I immediately delved into 'The Wonderful World of Pet Rabbits' in search of answers to my immediate concerns. Everything was there, from housing, to food, to behaviour (of which I understood nothing). Of all the books I had borrowed from the library, Internet sites and any info I could glean from anyone, your book is by far the most comprehensive, sensible and easy to understand. The warm down to earth no nonsense approach that emanates for the pages is so welcoming and reassuring that I am sure to succeed in raising healthy, happy bunnies. With appreciation and Best Wishes, Ingrid Johnson, new bunny owner, Victoria

I bought your book and I can't believe how often I refer to it. It has become my rabbit bible!
I absolutely love it and am recommending it to all rabbit people I see! Maxine O'Keefe, NSW

Fabulous book and I was pleased to see someone else knew about lucerne tree! A lot of people don’t know about it here and it’s like gold to my bunnies. LOL Dad is reading the book and is very impressed too! Anyway great book and I will do my best to promote it with the other copies I have (going to take it to my vets etc). Kirstie Rhodes, New Zealand
